I recently had the opportunity to work with a really talented custom doll artist who takes American Girl dolls and makes them over with new wigs and makeup.
It was so much fun coming up with a costume design that worked for the character she was re-creating with the doll.
Pictured are "Candyland Girl" modeled after a Katy Perry outfit and Kiera from "Barbie: Princess and the Rockstar".
To create these outfits I first did a lot of web research and made a few prototypes from scrap fabrics. Shopping for some of the fabrics was a challenge especially trying to get the right purple/blue combination for Kiera.
Always wanting to try something new, I have been learning how to make doll shoes. Both outfits include a few of my first attempts. Still a learning process but they are a lot of fun to make!
I think my next venture will be maybe some outfits from Downton Abby. They have such gorgeous costumes, and I love period pieces.
